The first kind of car part that comes to mind when fixing one's car is OEM car parts. The term "OEM" stands for "oe manufacturer," which means that OEM automobile parts come straight from the company that made the car to begin with. Quite simply, if a person's Chevrolet Cavalier were to fail because of the alternator or basic then an OEM alternator or beginner could be purchased in order to repair the car. The benefit for buying oe manufacturer car parts is the fact that there will generally be considered a guarantee on the part that is bought. In addition, one is usually assured that the part will work and fit the automobile on the first try.
A downside to buying OEM car parts is the actual fact they are generally much more expensive that other styles of car parts. Whereas other vehicle parts may be around $50, the same automobile parts that are bought from the OEM may be just as much as $150. The purchase price makes all the difference, too, when restoring your car, so that it may not actually behoove you to purchase OEM automobile parts.
On the other hand, the other kind of auto parts that can be purchased when restoring an automobile is after-market car parts, or vehicle parts that are made for the same vehicle by third-parties. These automobile parts are usually much easier to run into, and much more auto repair retailers and retail stores generally hold after-market vehicle parts as opposed to OEM automobile parts. That's one of the big benefits to buying those types of vehicle parts, but another is that they are much less expensive than OEM vehicle parts. This is touched on in the last paragraph about OEM parts, but after-market vehicle parts are generally 50% or more less than the initial manufacturer's vehicle parts.
With that said, it is actually up to the person and the problem when the automobile is being repaired. Many people choose OEM car parts just because they are the safest kind of parts to go with, but quarrels for third-party vehicle parts are because they're much cheaper will be more accessible.
